Travel information
Travel options:We'd love our guests to spend the week in Italy and attend all of the events.
Most guests will want to fly into Rome. From there you can rent a car or ride the train to Florence. We take possession of the Villa on Saturday morning Sept 13.
There is also an option to fly into Pisa making a connection with Alitalia (other carriers offer flights into Pisa from most other European cities). From Pisa you can also rent a car.
Lodging options:For those guests not staying at the Villa, Sandra and I will be visiting the local area around the beginning of May. We will be previewing the candidate hotels in the San Gimignano area (one of the closest towns to the villa) and will provide detailed recommendations upon our return.

When we set out to plan our wedding we wanted to find a beautiful place that we could gather our close family and friends and have a celebration. It did not take us long to decide on Italy and since food and wine is such an important part of our lives we of course thought of Tuscany. Sandra traveled to Italy to investigate with help from Memmo and Yolanda. After touring several Villas in the Florence, Sienna and Umbria regions she found the perfect Villa in Florence, Villa Piaggia (www.villapiaggia.it) a small quaint Villa located 15 minutes outside of San Gimignano.
While in Florence Sandra purchased the invitations made from typical Florentine paper inspired by the traditional Renaissance patterns originally dating back to the early 15th century and still popular today.
We have set a few wine tastings for the week including one from Le Tre Sorelle, an old family friend that has a vineyard in Chianti and another from Villa Dianella (www.villadianella.it) in Vinci, Florence the sister Villa to the one we are staying at. They will also be hosting the Italian cooking class set up during the week.
There will also be a day for the boys to tour Chianti by Vespa (www.tuscany-vespatours.com) while the girls tour Florence (www.themall.it) for a shopping trip (we can always swap that around boys!!) Bring your golf clubs if you’d like Castelfalfi Golf Club is only 5 km away. The Villa has a beautiful swimming pool that can be shared by all of our guests during the day if you choose to relax after sightseeing or just want to spend a lazy day by the pool.
The idea is for everyone to have a fun and relaxing week (please see wedding calendar for more information) being able to mix in personal sightseeing with our events. The wedding ceremony will be on September 18. The rehearsal dinner, the night before, will be a traditional Venetian masquerade Ball (so if you’ve purchased one of the masks years ago this is the time to use it) if not don’t worry we will have lots of extras for you, also a great time to pull out those long formal dresses that have been hanging in your closet that you are desperate to wear again!
Our suggestion is that you rent a car from the airport. There is also transportation available at the Pisa Airport and Florence train station to San Gimignano Hotel, however a car will offer greater freedom. Transportation will be provided on the 17th and 18th from Villa Piaggia to San Gimignano.
